PROVO, UT — January 18, 2017 — CircusTrix, the largest developer and operator of extreme recreation parks in the world, has hired Brendan Burke, former Vice President of Marketing for the Utah Jazz, as its new Chief Marketing Officer.
The move comes at a time of considerable growth for Circustrix, which owns and operates more than 30 individually branded parks around the world, including Area51, Gravady and Ryze. As CMO, Burke will focus on building the global CircusTrix brand, improving individual park marketing and managing partnerships and endorsement deals.
“I’m driven by unique challenges and positive growth. Being a part of something with this much potential is thrilling, and I’m honored to join the talented team behind the market leader of extreme indoor recreation,” Burke said. “Priority number one is to get under the hood and gain a deep understanding of CircusTrix’s customers and their relationship with and perception of the brand—especially the park brands our customers know and love.”
Burke joined Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment in 2005 and led the Utah Jazz, MiLB's Salt Lake Bees and the now Vivint Smart Home Arena into the digital age. While there, he created the first digital marketing and analytics departments and was responsible for Jazz brand management, including environmental branding of the arena, marketing programs and corporate partnerships.
Prior to 2005, Burke worked for several Los Angeles based communications agencies, serving as the primary liaison to several clients, including Ford Motor Company and Nintendo of America. This will be Burke’s first foray into extreme recreation.
“Brendan is going to be a key player in positioning us as the leading indoor recreation brand,” said Case Lawrence, CEO of CircusTrix. “When you look at the last decade of the Jazz—just about every impactful thing they’ve done in terms of marketing and community-building—that’s Brendan and his team. Given his impressive track record, we’re confident that he’ll be a strong addition to our CircusTrix team.”
Burke brought the Jazz to new heights and into the digital age by spearheading the use of social media, the development of an app, the creation of the first Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees and Vivint Smart Home Arena databases, and introducing online ticket sales. These innovations led to terrific results, including the Utah Jazz outselling all other NBA teams in online season ticket sales during the first year season tickets were available online.
